Meet Coach Amy

Varsity Head Coach

This is Amy's fourth year as the dedicated leader of Petaluma's volleyball program.  Amy comes with a breadth of knowledge having coached youth athletics for the past 16 years. She is dedicated to creating a strong program and culture, with the objective of raising her athletes to the next level in volleyball and in life and building a competitive team.  


Meet Coach Beth

JV Head Coach/Varsity Assistant Coach

This is Beth's third season with PHS.  This season she will take on the roll of head JV coach and Assistant Varsity coach. Beth is insightful and brings a wealth of knowledge along with a positive attitude and coaching style.  Beth played four years at James Wood High School at setter and right side. All State 2002.  She played right side and middle hitter for four years at Shepherd University,  Division 2. As a coach, Beth has broad experience. She coached for two years JV & Varsity: Asheville Trailblazers (part of the NCHEAC). During that time, her Varsity team won the state championship and were 4th at their national tourney. 

Meet Coach Chrissy

Freshman Head Coach

Coach Chrissy has shaped the foundation of Petaluma's volleyball program as the Head Freshman coach for the past four years. Chrissy has tremendous experience coaching at this level. She loves the freshman team where she can teach strong fundamentals of the game and a great foundation of culture and work ethic moving into the higher level of play. Chrissy is Amy's right hand and is consistently working to better the program for the long-term. 

Stephanie Maddox

Assistant Coach

Stephanie is new to our coaching staff this year and will assist on Freshman, JV and Varsity this season.  Stephanie is a Certified Nursing Assistant and has been working in healthcare for 5+ years. She was the Assistant Coach at Genesee Community College  in 2014 where her team qualified for nationals. She played at SUNY Potsdam from 2015 to 2016, She was Captain at Genesee Community College 2013-2014 and made all region and all conference. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, working out, cuddling with her pets, and watching TV.

Vanna Marquez

JV & Varsity Assistant Coach

Vanna will help out at practices and games as her schedule permits this season.  Vanna just completed her college career at Dominican University. She ranked in the top 3 in serve/receive, serving aces and digs for her league. She has coached at Absolute Volleyball Club in Marin for the past two years in the 15s and 17s age groups. Vanna has 12 years of volleyball experience.  She was a four year varsity player at Merrill West High School.  She coached two years of boys' volleyball at West, leading them to a conference championship.  She has a wonderful energy, and knows how to bring players to the next level. 

Stella Schwappach

Freshman Assistant Coach

This is Stella's second season assisting Coach  Chrissy with the Freshman team . Stella is an alumni player of Petaluma High School who graudated in 2022 and now attends University of Washington. They were an outside hitter during their time with PHS. Stella also coached the Petaluma Junior High School 8th grade team their senior year. Stella is a huge support to Coach Chrissy and is great at moving players to the next level.

John Pendleton

Varsity Assistant Coach

John has lived in Petaluma for the past 18 years working as a family physician. As an avid beach and grass volleyball player through high school and college he enjoyed the chance to play against top players in Southern California while attending UCLA. He switched to indoor volleyball in his 20’s and 30’s playing middle blocker on club volleyball teams on the east coast. John is excited for the opportunity to help our students develop their skills and create balance between academics and athletics while spending less time on their phones! He has coached youth sports in a variety of settings including PYSL and Petaluma National Little League. 

Richard Wong

Rich has coached volleyball for over two decades in the Peninsula and SF area for club, elementary and high school volleyball.  He had both led and helped led club teams to numerous Junior National Championships, most recently at Absolute Volleyball Club last season.  In SF,  he runs the girls volleyball program at St. Gabriel School where he was an alumni at, and there are many success stories with the different teams and grades he had coached, leading multiple grade levels to division 1 championships.  He hopes to be able to share some of the knowledge and energy with our teams.  In his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his family, skiing, wakeboarding, and creating videos and photos.

Petaluma High School Volleyball is highly focused on its culture. Its culture is built on creating a positive environment that allows players to grow as individuals, teammates and as competitive volleyball players. Its focus is on the TEAM as a unit and supersedes the needs of one toward the growth of all. No player takes precedence over the other, and ALL players serve an important role in our program.
